USIS provided security-based information and service solutions to both government and corporate customers, in the United States and abroad. Its corporate headquarters are in Idylwood, Virginia, near Falls Church, in Greater Washington, D.C. USIS is a part of Altegrity Inc., a company headquartered in the Falls Church area that is owned by Providence Equity Partners.

The interview procedure at USIS is similar to competitors. There is a common skills assessment which covers subjects including but not limited to reading, writing, articulation, and basic math. Applicants must bring their resume with them to the interview. Some applicants go through a phone screening before progressing to an in person interview. Current employees have reported that it is important to show that you are capable of handling stressful situations, working in a fast paced setting, have a flexible schedule, and collaborating with colleagues. Once through the screening process, all new employees are required to go through a introductory training.
