SDI is among the most profitable American steel companies in terms of profit margins and operating profit per ton. In 2015, the company produced and shipped 7.7 million tons of steel and the company has a production capacity of 11 million tons of steel.

The interview procedure at Steel Dynamics is straightforward. There is a common skills assessment which covers topics including but not limited to reading, writing, articulation, and simple math. Applicants must bring their resume with them to the interview. Some applicants go through a email screening prior to progressing to an in person interview.
