IBM is a technology and consulting company that manufactures and sells computer software and hardware. Additionally, IMB's services include hosting, consulting and infrastructure. In 2011, IBM was the third largest publicly traded technology company. Originally founded in 1911 as the Computing Tabulating Recording Corporation, or CTR, it changed its name to International Business Machines (IBM) in 1924. In 2011, Fortune named IBM the seventh most profitable US company, and the 18th largest overall. Additionally, IBM has the most patents of any US technology company. Notable inventions by IBM include the ATM, magnetic stripe card, UPC, floppy disk and hard disk drive, to name a few.
