About Caterpillar®

Caterpillar first came into existence in 1925 when the C.L. Best Tractor Company merged with the Holt Manufacturing Company. The company makes heavy machinery and engines and is best recognized by its yellow paint and "CAT" logo. Today, there are 51 Caterpillar plants in the US, and 59 plants located overseas on countries such as England, France, Italy, Mexico and Japan, to name a few. Caterpillar products are sold through the network of 220 Caterpillar dealers, each of which are independently owned and operated. Dealers have exclusive geographical territories and provide sales, repair and maintenance services, parts distribution and rental equipment. Caterpillar is the largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, as well as gas and diesel engines and gas turbines, in the world.

What to Expect When Interviewing

The majority of applicants that interview for a position with Caterpillar report a positive interview experience. Potential employees can expect a fairly straightforward interview process consisting of a face-to-face and/or group panel interview, in which a skills test and a personality test are given. A standard interview question might include, "Tell me about a situation where you had to make a difficult decision." Potential employees can apply online or in person, and phone interviews are sometimes conducted prior to the face-to-face interview. Applicants who are offered positions can expect to submit to a background check.
